In just four years, Floyd “The Man” Hampton Livingston has gone from working a ‘dead-end job’, to promoting and  blogging about the best of what Long Beach has to offer as a journalist and co-founder of  562 CityLife — THE social network for Long Beach. He is now one of the most visible and recognizable faces in the city, making tremendous strides toward change and development within the ninth district and throughout. We connected with “The Man” for our SolShock Q&A.

SolShock: What inspired your latest project?

Floyd: My latest project, which is of course, City Life, Inc. City Life, Inc. owns 562CityLife. Our next project is expansion and upwards growth of the company and the people involved. We plan on expanding up (or down) to the West coast with a community building tool that is tailored to that specific region. One major project we’re working on, is very exciting. We are bringing some really cool ways to use social media and other technology to make life easier.

SolShock:  What makes you radiant?

Floyd:  What makes me radiant? I don’t know if I can consider myself radiant, it’s hard to answer that question. Possibly, being involved in a lot of organizations in Long Beach makes me radiant. Although, I’m not always on a board of directors for some organization, being there to cover an event, supporting it in my way has put me on the map with Long Beach to people in other cities. I’ve figured out the best way to celebrate people, causes, projects, etc., is by supporting them. It makes it easier for me and I feel good when I can help others, no matter gender, race, background…

SolShock:  What was your most recent happy discovery?

Floyd:  My latest personal happy discovery was realizing that I’m actually getting recognized for the work that I do. It’s been a long coming and I know it’s only going to get better. Normally, I’m the one giving interviews and coverage so being behind the scenes was kinda my style, which I’m super cool with. But, doing that has also giving me coverage, it’s kind of ironic. I’ve received some cool compliments from the grass roots level to the City politics level. This discovery that I just might be doing some good here has encouraged me to do whatever I want and dream as big as I can. So far it’s worked out, and I’ll keep creating my life exactly as I want it to be.
